  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Brazil are looking for a new manager to lead them to the 2026 World Cup after sacking Dorival Junior this week. Now, UOL claims the Brazilian Football Confederation is targeting either City's Guardiola, Madrid's Ancelotti, or Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus. The report adds that Ancelotti is Brazil's preferred choice but Guardiola is also seen as an 'impossible' dream option.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Guardiola has previously admitted he wants to become a national team manager before he retires. In 2024, he said: "A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that."

However, his deal at City runs until 2027 whereas Brazil will want to appoint a new boss as soon as possible ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, a Brazil gig seems unlikely.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The report adds that Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira and Flamengo manager Filipe Luis are also on Brazil's list of targets but they aren't as high up the pecking order.

    WHAT NEXT?

Brazil resume their World Cup qualifying campaign against Ecuador on June 4. It remains to be seen if a new manager will be appointed by then.
