Fantasy Premier League managers usually get excited about which forwards or midfielders to select ahead of the new season with the transfer window open for business and high-profile signings being made left and right.

Full-backs also generate plenty of tactical talk, but goalkeepers tend to be overlooked given the fact their potential for goals and assists is all but nil.

Shot-stoppers do have a crucial role to play in the game, though, with the best ones capable of raking in huge points with clean sheet bonuses - and GOAL is on hand to provide a list of those you will want to consider having in your squads.

  • Alisson Becker Liverpool 2021-22Getty Images

    Alisson | Liverpool | £5.5m

Alisson has won the Premier League's Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets on two occasions since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2018 - including in 2021-22.

The Brazilian has been central to the Reds' recent success under Jurgen Klopp, and will surely again be a popular choice for FPL managers that tend to set and forget a first-choice shot-stopper right from the off.

  • Hugo Lloris Tottenham 2021-22Getty

    Hugo Lloris | Tottenham | £5.5m

Lloris has had his critics during his time at Tottenham, but he was a rock as the last line of defence for Antonio Conte's side towards the back end of the 2021-22 campaign.

He kept a total of 16 Premier League clean sheets as Spurs pipped arch-rivals Arsenal to fourth place, and after finishing as the second-highest scoring goalkeeper in FPL he is likely to be in even higher demand.

  • Ederson Manchester City 2021-22Getty

    Ederson | Manchester City | £5.5m

Next up is Manchester City No.1 Ederson, who plays second fiddle to Alisson at international level for Brazil.

Ederson was 21 points behind his compatriot at the top of the FPL scoring charts last term, but he was the one that ended up with a Premier League winners' medal, and could be the best choice between the sticks on FPL in 2022-23 if Man City's domination continues.

  • Jose Sa Wolves 2021-22Getty Images

    Jose Sa | Wolves | £5.0m

Wolves net-minder Sa amassed 146 points in FPL in 2021-22, a total bettered by only the first three goalkeepers in this list.

The Portuguese recorded 11 shut-outs as Wolves finished 10th in the Premier League table and is guaranteed to continue as first choice under Bruno Lage, which makes him an attractive option.

  • Aaron Ramsdale Arsenal 2021-22Getty Images

    Aaron Ramsdale | Arsenal | £5.0m

Ramsdale was part of an Arsenal side that conceded 48 goals last season to just miss out on a top four Premier League finish and Champions League qualification.

The Englishman only kept 12 clean sheets, but he still gained a respectable total of 135 FPL points thanks to a boost he earned from bonus points for save, and he still has plenty of room to improve at just 24 years of age.

  • Edouard Mendy Chelsea 2021-22Getty

    Edouard Mendy | Chelsea | £5.0m

Mendy's second season at Chelsea included one or two high-profile errors, but for the most part, he was still a reliable asset between the sticks for Thomas Tuchel's side.

The Blues will be expected to mount a stronger push for the title in 2022-23 - provided they are able to close a few key signings - and Mendy's contribution could be crucial to their chances, with his potential for clean sheets still among the highest in the division.

  • Nick Pope Newcastle 2022-23Getty Images

    Nick Pope | Newcastle | £5.0m

Pope suffered relegation from the Premier League with Burnley last season, but it quickly became apparent that he would not be dropping down to the Championship.

Newcastle have won the race for the 30-year-old's signature and he is now set to replace Martin Dubravka as Eddie Howe's No.1, with another solid summer signing in the form of Dutch defender Sven Botman in line to lead the defence in front of him.

That pairing could transform the Magpies into one of the top defensive sides in the top-flight, and he represents a solid option for any FPL manager looking to leave a bit of money in the pot for outfield additions.

  • SchmeichelGetty

    Kasper Schmeichel | Leicester City | £5.0m

Although Leicester had a difficult 2021-22 league campaign, Kasper Schmeichel picked up 12 bonus points and saved two penalties.

These points can be really handy to knock down the close rivals in FPL and if the Foxes can turn it around this time, he can look to get above 150 points.

  • Illan Meslier Leeds 2021-22Getty Images

    Illan Meslier | Leeds United | £4.5m

Illan Meslier could prove to be a steal at £4.5m. The Leeds net-minder had the highest number of stops in the Premier League in 2021-22 and can be a handy customer.

He finished as the third highest-scoring keeper in FPL with 154 points courtesy of his number of saves.

  • Robert Sanchez Brighton 2020-21Getty Images

    Robert Sanchez | Brighton | £4.5m

At just £4.5m, Robert Sanchez is one of the best budget options available in the market.

Brighton had the 5th best defence in Premier League last season and the goalkeeper played an instrumental role. If he maintains his form in this season as well, he can be a game-changer.

  • David Raya Brentford 2021-22Getty

    David Raya | Brentford | £4.5m

David Raya may have missed over 10 games last season in the Premier League. However, when the Spaniard was in goal, he was impressive enough to pick up a Fantasy Premier League haul of 95 points.

At £4.5m, Raya offers an excellent choice as one of the two goalkeepers for any FPL manager. With the keeper returning from injury and eager to give this season his very best, it is likely that managers who have Raya in their squad may have struck gold.

  • Thomas Strakosha Lazio 2021-22Getty

    Thomas Strakosha | Brentford | £4.5m

With the acquisition of Thomas Strakosha, Brentford may have given FPL managers a selection dilemma.

The experienced goalkeeper, priced very attractively at £4.5m, could turn out to be a safe bet in between the sticks for the 2022-23 Fantasy Premier League season.

The 27-year-old Albanian goalkeeper has over 150 matches' worth of experience under his belt and is sure to be an exciting pick for your squad as a firm second choice goalkeeper.
