WHAT HAPPENED?
Arsenal have been hunting for a new sporting director since Edu Gaspar’s surprise exit last month. The Brazilian, who played a pivotal role in reshaping Arsenal’s football operations, left the club to join Nottingham Forest, despite being offered a significant pay increase at the Emirates. The Gunners have since shifted their focus to finding an ideal candidate to fill the gap left by Edu's departure and recent developments suggest that Arsenal may have found their man.

Reports from Foot Mercato indicate that Arsenal are in advanced negotiations with Roberto Olabe, the highly regarded sporting director of Real Sociedad. Known for his strategic vision and knack for identifying talent, the 57-year-old has been a key figure in Sociedad’s recent success. Under his leadership, the La Liga side won their first major trophy in over 30 years by claiming the Copa del Rey in 2021. Moreover, they returned to the Champions League in the 2023-2024 season, marking their first appearance in the competition in a decade.
