Arne Slot to Liverpool edging closer! Reds in 'confident' talks to agree compensation fee for Feyenoord boss after identifying him as No.1 candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Anfield outfit are making inroads in their bid to appoint Feyenoord manager Slot as their next manager - with Jurgen Klopp stepping down at the end of the season. While the deal is far from done, compensation talks have reportedly been positive and there is 'confidence' this is moving in the right direction.

Romano tweeted on Wednesday morning: "Liverpool and Feyenoord are currently in good and constructive discussions about compensation fee for Arne Slot. As mentioned earlier, there’s no release clause but clubs in talks to agree on fee. Despite initial bid not accepted, discussions remain ongoing with confidence."

Finding a successor for Klopp was always going to be difficult, after winning the Premier League and Champions League among other titles at Anfield, but few would have predicted it would have panned out like this. Xabi Alonso snubbed the Reds to stay at Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim is out of the running, too. Now it seems Liverpool are moving for Slot, who has won the Dutch league and premier domestic cup since taking over as Feyenoord manager in 2021. Perhaps, Liverpool's three-month search for a new manager for the 2024-25 season is coming to a close.

While negotiations between all relevant parties continue behind the scenes, Liverpool are away to Merseyside rivals Everton on Wednesday night in a crucial Premier League crash at the top and bottom of the table.
