'Alvaro Morata is on par with Erling Haaland' - Diego Simeone makes bold claim over Atletico Madrid striker despite clear numbers gap to Man City goal machine

The Argentine manager compared Atletico's in-form frontman Morata to Manchester City's talismanic No.9 Haaland, and claimed that the Spaniard is on par with the Norwegian in terms of statistics.

Contrary to Simeone's claim, Haaland is ahead of Morata in terms of both goals and assists in the 2023-24 season so far. While the City star has scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 18 games across all competitions, Morata has 12 goals and three assists to his name from 15 outings.

Speaking on Manu Carreno's podcast, El Larguero, Simeone said: "Alvaro Morata is on par with Erling Haaland. In terms of goals and his numbers, he can certainly be compared to him."

Both the strikers will be in action for their respective national teams during the international break. While Spain take on Cyprus on November 16, Norway will face Faroe Islands on the same day in Euro 2024 qualifying.
