The fixtures are piling up fast for Inter Miami as they enter the decisive stretch of the 2025 MLS regular season. Just three days after grinding out a 1–1 draw on the road against Toronto FC, the Herons are back under the lights on Tuesday night, hosting Chicago Fire in a clash with huge playoff implications for both sides.
For Miami, anything short of three points will almost certainly take them out of the Supporters' Shield chase, while Chicago still has its sights set on a postseason push, with a chance to climb as high as fifth if they can grab a win in Fort Lauderdale and follow it up with another victory against Toronto this weekend.
It's been a relentless run for Miami, who by the end of this stretch will have played nine matches in just 21 days. Yet despite the heavy workload, the Herons have climbed the table, rattling off three straight wins before their stalemate with Toronto. Chicago, meanwhile, have proven tough opposition for some of the league's top contenders all season and will look to do the same again at Chase Stadium.
Coming off an impressive 2–0 triumph over the Columbus Crew, Gregg Berhalter's side now looks well-placed to host the Eastern Conference Wild Card match. However, victory in this game-in-hand could see the Fire leapfrog into the automatic playoff spots, skipping the Wild Card round altogether.

Team news & squads
Inter Miami CF team news
For Miami, Javier Mascherano has leaned heavily on his veteran core and is unlikely to change that now. He has been clear that chasing the highest possible seed is "non-negotiable" for the club heading into the postseason. While wear and tear remain a concern for aging stars Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez, and Sergio Busquets—who recently announced his retirement plans—the quartet have made it clear they want to maximize every minute together in the twilight of their careers.
Tuesday carries added weight for Messi, who leads the MLS Golden Boot race by a single goal over LAFC's Denis Bouanga, the latter thriving alongside summer arrival Son Heung-min.
A win could vault Miami up to third in the East, but a defeat may drop them outside the top four in points-per-game, denying them home advantage in the opening best-of-three series. On the availability front, Miami are nearly at full strength, missing only Allen Obando and David Ruiz through injury and Mateo Silvetti due to international duty with Argentina at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Chicago Fire FC team news
As for Chicago, the attacking duo of Hugo Cuypers and Philip Zinckernagel have been their lifeline all year, and the Fire will once again look to them for inspiration. Cuypers bagged his 17th goal of the campaign in the win over Columbus, while Zinckernagel has been on fire with 10 goals and 14 assists in what is shaping up to be one of the most productive attacking seasons in club history.
A victory on Tuesday would also mark a watershed moment for Chicago, clinching their first playoff appearance since 2017 while simultaneously ending the New York Red Bulls' remarkable 15-year streak of postseason qualifications. The Fire, however, will be without Chris Mueller due to a heart condition and Viktor Radojevic through a muscle injury.
