WATCH: David Villa double continues home-opener scoring streak

Everyone loves the buzz around the stadium and having a clean slate for the new year, but no player seems to enjoy it as much as David Villa.

The Spanish forward scored a header in the 28th minute, finishing off a Rodney Wallace pass, to extend the scoreline to 2-0 for NYCFC over D.C. United.

Coupled with his goal in 2015's 2-0 victory against the New England Revolution and his double 2016's 2-2 draw with Toronto FC, Villa now has scored in all three home openers since he joined MLS.

Villa chipped again just minutes later, stealing a ball near midfield, making a run toward goal and playing in Maxi Moralez for the Argentine's first MLS goal as NYCFC took a 3-0 lead into the break.

And he wasn't done yet. Villa got into the box. put a move on DCU center back Steve Birnbaum to get to the end line and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Bill Hamid for the final goal in a 4-0 victory. Villa

With the double, Villa moves to a six-way tie atop the MLS scoring chart.
