Bayern Munich and Germany forward Thomas Muller, who was in Singapore with the Bundesliga champions for the International Champions Cup, took the time to speak with the media about the influence that Malaysian coach Lim Teong Kim had on him as an academy player.

"I learnt very much from him. He has a great eye for tactics and to take the right positions on the pitch.

"He was one of the first coaches I learnt football from, so I enjoyed it very much," said Muller.

Lim, a former Melaka, Kuala Lumpur and Hertha Berlin player and a former Malaysia international, joined the Bayern Munich youth coaching staff from 2001 to 2011 after hanging up his boots.

At the Munich club, he tutored many of the club and Germany's current stars including Muller, who would go on to win the World Cup with Die Mannschaft in 2014.

Lim returned to Malaysia in 2013 to head the country's National Football Development Programme (NFDP) as its technical director.
