Is this 'the year of Kylian Mbappe' at Real Madrid? Florentino Perez responds to transfer question amid claims PSG superstar has finally chosen to join La Liga giants

Various reports suggest that the World Cup-winning France international has agreed a move to Santiago Bernabeu. Mbappe is set to become a free agent this summer when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain – which has not seen an extension option triggered – comes to a close.

Real have been pursuing the 25-year-old’s signature for some time, with bids of around €220 million (£188m/$237m) tabled at one stage, and they appear to have finally got their man. Mbappe will reportedly take a pay cut in order to follow his dream of one day turning out for Los Blancos.

Perez is the man making that deal possible, but the Madrid president is giving little away when it comes to questions of wrapping up a swoop for one of the most sought-after talents in world football. Perez responded with “how original” when asked by El Chiringuito if this will be “the year of Mbappe” for Real.

Mbappe is PSG’s all-time leading scorer and has won every domestic honour while at Parc des Princes. A switch to Spain could help him to become a Ballon d’Or winner, while he is also determined to gets his hands on an elusive Champions League crown.
