Could Wrexham sign Arthur Okonkwo on permanent transfer? Arsenal loanee addresses future questions after making one decision that will delight Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney

It has been confirmed that the 22-year-old goalkeeper will be seeing out the 2023-24 campaign at SToK Racecourse. Arsenal are happy for his development to be served by regular game time in North Wales, but questions are being asked of whether a summer deal could be done.

Quizzed on where he sees his long-term future, with the Red Dragons ready to enter into transfer talks if given any encouragement, Okonkwo said: “For me it's trying to get to the highest level I can. I'm at the beginning of my career. I'm not looking too far forward, I'm just focusing on where I am at the moment.”

Okonkwo has thrived at Wrexham – even with an unfortunate jaw injury taken into account – and says he never expected Arsenal to trigger a recall clause that expired on January 21. He said: “It's been great. I joined the team with a plan with the gaffer - at the beginning I was just waiting for my opportunity. Now it's good to be playing and being involved with the team and helping as much as I can.”

He added: “I had no doubts I would be here until the end of the season. Our assistant coach at Arsenal looks after the loan goalkeepers and he has been in constant communication. I am here to stay and it's a good feeling.”

Okonkwo has taken in 20 appearances for Wrexham across all competitions, keeping 10 clean sheets, and will be hoping to figure prominently in Phil Parkinson’s plans when the Red Dragons head to Blackburn for an FA Cup fourth-round clash on Monday.
