Worst Premier League Team of the Season so far

The sheer ineptitude of Joe Hart's entire season cannot truly be explained. Once Manchester City and England's undisputed No.1, a loan move to West Ham has led to him being dropped, and placed into doubt his participation at next summer's World Cup. Hart has conceded 30 goals in just 14 games; Gareth Southgate would do well to steer well clear.

Joe Hart | West Ham United

No player in the Premier League has committed more errors leading to goals than Cedric. The Southampton defence has not been as leaky as others in the division, but the whole cannot function as effectively when carrying a passenger at right-back.

Cedric Soares | Southampton

Buying defenders appears to be something of a kryptonite for Jose Mourinho, with Lindelof a player who is seemingly unable to do even the simplest defensive tasks without needing to be covered by a team-mate. In his first start of the season, United lost to Huddersfield Town, with Lindelof culpable for both goals. He was hooked in the 67th minute.

Victor Lindelof | Manchester United

One would struggle to find a more uncomfortable looking defender in the Premier League than Williams. A major part of Everton's malaise under Ronald Koeman, Williams may well be moulded into an effective blockade by Sam Allardyce, but it must be said that he has been something of a comedy figure in recent months.

Ashley Williams | Everton

After fluttering his eyelashes at bigger, richer clubs than Tottenham in the summer, one would have expected Rose to knuckle down, prove his quality and earn that move he seems to so desperately crave. Instead, he has been something of an oddity at left-back in his four Premier League appearances, perennially distracted, and seemingly with one eye on the Manchester clubs. Ben Davies remains Mauricio Pochettino's go-to left-back for the very biggest games.

Danny Rose | Tottenham

Signed from Bayern Munich on loan amidst much fanfare, Sanches' most telling contribution thus far this season has been passing the ball to an advertising hoarding. He is clearly capable of the sublime, but the ridiculous stray ball summed up what is threatening to become a costly misadventure in Wales for a young player who has roundly failed to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Renato Sanches | Swansea City 

Jonjo Shelvey is a good footballer, but he appears to let his heart rule his head all too often at St James' Park. He is now 25 and should be maturing, yet he has missed a total of four games this season through suspension. Rafael Benitez needs him to be fit and firing for the entirety of the campaign if Newcastle are to stay up, but his displays of petulance suggest the Spaniard cannot rely upon him for any length of time.

Jonjo Shelvey | Newcastle United

Clunky where N'Golo Kante is silky, Bakayoko has been the subject of much internet mirth since his move to Stamford Bridge, and it is justified; a £40 million player should be expected to trap a ball. His recent performances have shown signs of promise, but he will have to improve rapidly if he is to pay back any portion of his fee.

Tiemoue Bakayoko | Chelsea

The great disappearing man. In the 1800s, many may have paid to see such a circus act, but at Old Trafford fans have long wondered what has happened to the talented Armenia international Mkhitaryan. After a blistering start, in which he provided five assists in three games, he has played just seven minutes of football since the start of December, and Jose Mourinho has all but confirmed he will be sold in the coming transfer window.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan | Manchester United

Benteke may have missed five games through injury this season, but his goalscoring record is one to make you wince. In 13 games this season he has scored once - last week, against Leicester City. Palace are fighting against relegation, and they will surely sink if the Belgian's scoring rate doesn't improve.

Imagine if Alexis' move to Manchester City had gone through and Thomas Lemar had arrived at London Colney in his stead. Perhaps Arsenal would still be in a title race that already appears to be over, freed of a player who is clearly precociously talented but who has gone missing when the Gunners have needed him most. He is passionate, and was once integral; now several Arsenal fans seem to simply be waiting for Alexit to be confirmed.
