Explained: Why Aston Villa will not terminate ex-Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho's contract amid Vasco Da Gama transfer pursuit

The former Liverpool star has been linked with a move away from the Premier League this summer as he is all set to return to Brazil and sign for top-division side Vasco da Gama. It was earlier reported that the player is trying to terminate his existing contract with Aston Villa to sign for his new club as a free agent.

However, according to ESPN, the Villans have refused to release the player permanently this summer and are not willing to terminate his deal which still runs until 2026. Instead, the English side will allow the midfielder to move out on a season-long loan deal.

Vasco da Gama are prepared to welcome the 32-year-old and have already made two signings as per the ex-Brazil international's demands. They have roped in Souza and Alex Teixeira from Sao Paulo.

Unai Emery's side are expected to make new signings to rebuild their squad ahead of a historic 2024/25 season where they are all set to take part in the Champions League.
