Hammers supporters had arrived for a derby meeting with the Gunners full of hope, and took the opportunity to poke fun at former captain Declan Rice early on. Their mood quickly soured, with David Moyes’ side collapsing in spectacular style.

William Saliba broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, with Bukayo Saka then converting from the penalty spot. A flurry of three goals in the space of six minutes saw Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard also get in on the act.

Many home followers had seen enough by that point, with plenty heading for the exits. There were a lot of empty seats on show when the second-half got underway, with the Hammers accepting that it was not going to be their day.

Arsenal remain very much in the Premier League race this season, with confidence flowing through Mikel Arteta’s side at present, while West Ham will be hoping to fare much better when they travel to Nottingham Forest next weekend.
