USMNT striker Daryl Dike returns to training with West Brom following long-term injury

U.S. international Daryl Dike has returned to training for West Brom Thursday, according to his club. It's a significant development for the striker who tore his his Achilles in February a month after just returning from a torn Achilles in the opposite leg.

Smiling wearing a training outfit, Dike was pictured as a participant in West Brom's training session Thursday.

The 24-year-old has had horrid injury luck since arriving at the Hawthorns from MLS side Orlando City in 2022, but he's now back in training, meaning he could return to the pitch for the Baggies in the coming weeks.

Dike has only played in 32 matches for West Brom since his arrival during the 2021-22 campaign, with the forward managing just four total appearances during the 2023-24 season. Per Transfermarkt, Dike has been injured for 636 days during his time with Albion.

Issues began in 2022 with a minor hamstring injury that sidelined him for 52 days, but then in 22-23, he suffered a thigh injury that put him on the bench from the start of the campaign until early November for a total of 98 days. Later that season, he ruptured his first Achilles, an injury that marked 264 days of recovery until his return to the pitch.

Then, in February of this year, he suffered his second Achilles rupture, one that he's still in the process of recovering from.

Dike has represented the U.S. men's national team 10 times, scoring three goals. His last appearance in a U.S. kit was in March, 2023 in the CONCACAF Nations League.

The U.S. striker still has a ways to go in terms of recovery and his timeline to return to senior team action. Thursday marked his first public appearance in a training session, meaning he's just getting back to participating in practice. The Baggies, meanwhile, are back in action this weekend when they host Plymouth Argyle in the English Championship.
