  • WHAT HAPPENED?

U.S. international Gio Reyna has earned just his second Bundesliga start for Borussia Dortmund, his first under new manager Niko Kovac. It's a stunning development as recent rumors have suggested the 22-year-old is not in the club's plans moving forward.

Dortmund currently sit 12th in the German top flight and are fighting to keep their faint European hopes alive.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This has been a challenging campaign for Reyna and Dortmund. Reyna, once a highly-touted prospect for the German club, has only made four starts. Dortmund have also struggled this campaign as former manager Nuri Sahin's tenure was a borderline disaster. They hope former Bayern and Wolfsburg manager Kovac can turn things around.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Reyna has played just 186 minutes in the Bundesliga, spread across 12 previous appearances.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR DORTMUND?

Dortmund will face St. Pauli on March 1 following their encounter with Union this Saturday.
