  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ream, who just competed in Copa America with the USMNT, has completed a stateside transfer to Charlotte FC. After nine years, 312 appearances and a brilliant run with Fulham across the top-two divisions in England, Ream is returning to MLS for the first time since 2012.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ream traveled to Charlotte this week to finalize the deal with the Eastern Conference side. The 36-year-old will link-up with ex-Aston Villa manager Dean Smith with The Crown, who are looking to bolster their roster this window ahead of a late-season push up the standings.

Ream, who signed a deal until 2026 that includes an option for another year, will not take up a Designated Player slot, sources tell GOAL. Currently, forward Karol Swiderski is the lone senior DP on the roster, while attacker Liel Abada takes up a Young DP slot. They are looking to fill their third and final senior slot this summer window as well.

  • WHAT REAM SAID

He told the North Carolina club's website: "I’m really excited to join Charlotte FC and return to the US for this next chapter of my career. In all my conversations with the people around the Club, it was clear this organization and city were the right places for my family and I to continue our journey. I’m here to win, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the team as we prepare for a key stretch of matches that will propel us toward the playoffs as we fight for our first trophy."

Reflecting on his time at Craven Cottage, he said: "When I walked through the Motspur Park doors in 2015, I would have never predicted what the following nine years would bring,” Ream said. “The memories made, the connections formed, and the people met along the way have made my time at Fulham more than special. I wish I could thank everyone individually for the part they played in shaping me as player, but more as a person. For all of that, I am beyond grateful."
