Transfer trades of the week: Elliot Anderson to Man City, Sandro Tonali to Tottenham & all the biggest done deals of the summer window

Nathan Ake brought the curtain down on a trophy-laden six-year spell with Manchester City on July 4 after it was revealed that the Dutchman would be heading out of the Premier League to join Fenerbahce. The Turkish giants will pay an initial fee of £7m, a figure that could rise to £8.5m with add-ons, for the ex-Bournemouth centre-back, who has signed a three-year contract.

Brentford have taken advantage of Burnley's relegation to the Championship by bringing in forward Jaidon Anthony for an initial fee of £15m. Anthony scored nine goals and contributed four assists in all competitions last season, and was one of few Burnley players to have made a telling contribution in the Premier League, despite them ultimately falling through the trap door.

Everton have won the race for in-demand Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, who was reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United. Hackney worked with Michael Carrick during his time in charge of the Championship club but the midfielder has decided to join the Toffees, who have paid £16m to land the 24-year-old.

Denzel Dumfries will provide competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid after the Inter full-back was officially announced as a new signing for Jose Mourinho's side on July 5. The Netherlands international enjoyed five productive years in Serie A, winning two league titles and coming agonisingly close to winning the Champions League on two occasions. Given his talent and experience at the highest level, Madrid have pulled off a coup by spending just £17m on a transfer fee.

Sunderland have confirmed that midfielder Eliezer Mayenda has left the club to join Ligue 1 side Rennes. The 21-year-old made a significant impact in the Black Cats' promotion-winning season in 2024-25, scoring in the play-off semi-final and final to help the Wearsiders reach the Premier League. He saw his minutes reduced in the last campaign, however, leading to Rennes making their move for a fee in the region of £22m.

One of the stars of the World Cup, Ismael Saibari has been on fire in North America, scoring three goals up to now to help Morocco progress through to the last 16 of the competition. Bayern Munich moved quickly to get a deal done before the end of the tournament and will pay a fee in the region of £42m to land the forward, who scored 19 goals in all competitions for PSV last season.

Newcastle United have found their replacement for Anthony Gordon, with the Magpies having signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim in a deal worth around £43m. The left winger, who played three times at the World Cup before Ivory Coast's exit at the hands of Norway, had originally joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in February 2025 and leaves after scoring five goals in 45 appearances in all competitions.

Xabi Alonso made Marco Palestra his first signing as Chelsea's new manager, with the Blues agreeing a £47m deal with Atalanta to take the Italian full-back to Stamford Bridge. Palestra was named Serie A Defender of the Year following his impressive performances on loan at Cagliari last season and will compete for the right-back berth, with rumours suggesting that Malo Gusto is on his way out.

Bayern Munich wasted no time in securing the services of Germany's first-choice left-back at the World Cup, withNathaniel Brown joining from Frankfurt in a move worth a reported £47m. Brown will primarily compete with Alphonso Davies for a starting berth at Allianz Arena, and has signed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions to take him through to 2031.

Tottenham successfully raided London rivals West Ham by signing Portugal international midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Hammers were powerless to stopping the 21-year-old from leaving after their relegation to the Championship, with Spurs shelling out a significant transfer fee of £85m to get their man.

Sandro Tonali was undoubtedly high on many transfer wishlists, with the Italian having been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City before Spurs smashed their transfer record, for the second time in under a week, to get a £100m deal over the line. The midfielder leaves Newcastle after three years on Tyneside, where he made over a century of appearances and won the League Cup in 2025.

Manchester City concluded one of the transfer sagas of the summer at the beginning of July as they confirmed they had reached a £116m agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson. The England international, who was also a target for Manchester United, underwent a medical while on World Cup duty with the Three Lions and leaves the City Ground having made 92 appearances in all competitions for Forest.
