  • Stockport beat MK Dons 5-0
  • Stockport go second in table
  • Wrexham now three points clear in promotion spots
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Stockport were rampant and appeared back to their best after just one win in their previous seven games. The win means they overtake Wrexham, who had climbed to second following their victory over Grimsby, and will have their eyes locked on the title after Mansfield fumbled two points against Colchester. It is all getting very close, and nervy, at the top of League Two with just a handful of games to play.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After Saturday's action, Mansfield remain top with 73 points and trailed by Stockport and Wrexham, with 71 and 70 points respectively. However, Stockport have a game in hand on both Mansfield and Wrexham and can go top should they win that game.

Below the three occupied promotion spots sit the defeated MK Dons on 67 points having played a game more than the teams above them. Wrexham will be delighted to have a bit of breathing space between themselves and their nearest promotion rival, but will be wary of Barrow sitting six points off them with two games in hand.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Four teams are promoted each season from League Two to League One and just two are relegated to the National League. This gives Wrexham plenty of hope that they will be able to be promoted this season either via the three automatic promotion spots or via the play-offs.

WHAT NEXT FOR STOCKPORT AND WREXHAM?

Stockport will be eagerly awaiting the result of next weeks clash between Mansfield and Wrexham, waiting to pounce on any dropped points as they face strugglers Forest Green Rovers. If Wrexham beat Mansfield they can go level at the top, but if they lose, they will be six points adrift.
