  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sport, when Lewandowski swapped Bayern Munich for Barcelona in 2022, a contract clause was inserted where the Catalan outfit could terminate the striker's deal at the end of the 2024-25 season if he failed to play at least 55 percent of his matches. But with the 36-year-old being a regular in Hansi Flick's team, a contract extension until 2026 was triggered following his side's 2-0 win at Las Palmas on Saturday.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This extension has been on the cards for weeks now, with the Pole reportedly considering ending his illustrious career at Barca. And while the veteran is still proving to be prolific at the top level, he may not be winding down his career anytime soon.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Since joining the Blaugrana, Lewandowski has scored 91 goals in 130 matches. The ex-Borussia Dortmund star is on course to have his best goalscoring season for Barca to date as he is just one behind his tally of 33 for the 2022-23 campaign.
