<p>Pochettino is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/mauricio-pochettino-usmnt-head-coach/bltb80c077b540a0842#cs7110defd6f5e8b2d" target="_blank">primed to take over of the United States men's national team</a> but has not yet been officially unveiled as their new manager. Ahead of that being confirmed, the former Chelsea boss' first game in charge of the US could be against Canada in a friendly on September 7, reports <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5720499/2024/08/24/mauricio-pochettino-usmnt-when/" target="_blank">The Athletic</a>. They report he is yet to be paid the money he is owed after one season in charge at the Blues - before <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/mauricio-pochettino-gone-chelsea-boss-departs-stamford-bridge-mutual-consent-leading-blues-sixth-placed-finish/blt6d34f985ff23b8d9" target="_blank">leaving Stamford Bridge earlier this summer</a>.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The report adds negotiations between U.S. Soccer, Pochettino and Chelsea are 'ongoing and remain positive', with the Argentine 'extremely excited' about taking up the role. Incidentally, The Athletic states that if he isn't confirmed as their new manager in time for the Canada game, he will be 'present and heavily involved' with the US for their upcoming games.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Pochettino has reportedly reached <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/usmnt-mauricio-pochettino-head-coach/blt92ff471c4ec24d80">an agreement with the United States Soccer Federation</a> but has not yet been sworn in as <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/gregg-berhalter-reportedly-out-as-usmnt-coach-in-wake-of-copa-america-failure/bltf2025138bcad4c1a" target="_blank">Gregg Berhalter's successor</a>. The former Tottenham manager is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/why-mauricio-pochettino-yet-to-be-appointed-usmnt-boss-despite-agreement-u-s-soccer/bltb38257b782e72dfe#cs2b804acd05e1a002" target="_blank">reportedly still being paid by Chelsea</a> and that will continue until he finds a new job.</p>
