    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Mbappe is finally set to join Real Madrid this summer, bringing an end to a protracted transfer saga that has dominated headlines for some time. The France international has already put pen to paper on a lucrative contract but the transfer has not yet been official announced. According to BBC Sport, the deal will now be announced once it is no longer possible for Real Madrid to meet PSG in the Champions League this season. Both teams are still battling it out for European glory. Los Blancos are 1-0 up at the halfway stage of their last-16 clash with RB Leipzig, while PSG hold a 2-0 lead on Real Sociedad after the first leg of their tie.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Both clubs are in a strong position to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition, raising the possibility that the official announcement could well be delayed. The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals is due to take place on March 15. This year's final will be played at Wembley Stadium on May 24.

    Mbappe will see out the campaign with PSG and will hope to add to his haul of trophies with the club before leaving for a new challenge in Spain. PSG are already on the hunt for a replacement, with Manchester United's Marcus Rashford having emerged as a potential transfer target.
