Revealed: Joao Pedro involved in training altercation with Jan Paul van Hecke that led to Brighton striker missing win over Liverpool

Pedro was a notable absentee from Brighton's 3-2 comeback win over Liverpool on Monday, with head coach Fabian Hurzeler saying he was not involved for "personal reasons". However, The Athletic states Pedro's absence was due to a training altercation with Van Hecke in the week building up to their Premier League game against Wolves on May 10.

Pedro has been linked with a big-money Brighton exit, with the Brazilian getting stick from fans for some of his performances. Altercations like this may heighten speculation that this season at the Amex may well be his last.

Pedro joined Brighton from Watford in the summer of 2023 for £30 million ($40.2m), which was a club record fee at the time. The 23-year-old, whose contract runs until 2028, has scored 10 goals this season.

Brighton, who are still in the race to qualify for the Europa Conference League, will hope to finish their season on a high when they take on Tottenham on Sunday - with the Seagulls currently eighth in the Premier League.
