Premier League all-time assists list: Man City star Kevin De Bruyne surpasses Cesc Fabregas in second spot

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins topped the chart with 13, winning the Premier League Playmaker award as a result. Chelsea star Cole Palmer took the runner-up spot with 11 assists, while nine players were tied in third place with 10.

That record is shared by De Bruyne and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. De Bruyne amassed 20 assists in the 2019-20 season, equalling Henry's tally from the 2002-03 campaign.

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is the top assist provider of all-time with 162 assists. De Bruyne trails him having surpassed Cesc Fabregas in second, while Wayne Rooney is fourth on 103 assists, which he accumulated for Everton and United. Frank Lampard is next on 102, his total coming with West Ham, Chelsea and City. Arsenal great Dennis Bergkamp is in sixth.

De Bruyne is 50 assists behind Giggs and it all comes down to how much longer he wants to stay at City. The Belgian has one year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and he would have to extend that by at least two years if he is to catch Giggs. It looks unlikely given the uncertainty over his future at City and the club's reluctance to offer long-term contracts to players over the age of 30. But if De Bruyne wants to make Premier League history, he has a good motive to extend his stay with the club.
