    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Red Dragons have rewritten the history books by securing three successive promotions, while ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ has opened up a window to the world. Reynolds and McElhenney have faced plenty of questions, but continue to invest fully in a surprising venture.

  • WHAT MICKEY THOMAS SAID

Club legend Mickey Thomas is among those struggling to explain quite what has happened, telling the Feast of Football podcast of a remarkable rise to prominence: “I don't think anyone can really believe what's happened to the football club. Everyone wants to go and watch Wrexham. You can't get a ticket these days.

“It's not just Wrexham, it's globally. They have captured the whole universe haven't they? I am sure if you go to the moon, there'd be someone there asking: 'How are Wrexham doing?'.

“I didn't see this happening. But what they have done is they have got the right man in charge in Phil Parkinson and the recruitment has been second to none.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

Wrexham are now preparing for life in the Championship, with Thomas confident that Parkinson’s side will remain fiercely competitive at that level. He added: “We know they will do well to finish halfway in the Championship or whatever, but you wouldn't put it past them, that they could get automatic promotion next year.

“You might laugh at that, but you never know with these two guys, everything they touch turns to gold.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Reynolds and McElhenney have never shied away from the fact that they want to bring Premier League football to SToK Racecourse. More investment will be required in order to hit that ultimate target, but everyone in Wrexham is daring to dream big.
