The Catalan giants were off to a dream start at the Montjuic Stadium as Robert Lewandowski handed them an early lead. Lamine Yamal initiated the move as he cut in from the right flank before sending an inch-perfect cross towards the Polish forward, who controlled with his chest before slamming home.

Despite the early setback, Vallecano responded well and they came close to an equaliser in the sixth minute - Pathe Ciss launching a shot on goal from the edge of the box, only to see Marc-Andre ter Stegen scramble the ball away.

Xavi made three crucial changes in the 62nd minute as Joao Felix, Pedri and Ronald Araujo replaced Raphinha, Fermin Lopez and Pau Cubarsi respectively. The substitutions proved to be decisive as Pedri scored two goals within the space of three minutes - Felix creating the second with a delightful run - to ensure Barca won 3-0 and sealed second spot in the league ahead of Girona, with one game to spare.

    THE MVP

Pedri proved to be the game-changer for Barcelona after coming on as sub just after the hour mark in place of Fermin Lopez. The Spain international scored two goals in quick succession, with the Vallecano defence unable to cope with him.

  • THE BIG LOSER

The Rayo Vallecano attack proved to be toothless in front of the goal as they failed to restore parity on multiple occasions before Pedri's brilliance sealed the fate of the game in the final 20 minutes. Indeed, despite having 15 total attempts, they only hit the target four times, with Sergio Camello and his team-mates fluffing their lines.
