  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Neymar hobbled out of Thursday's 2-0 victory over Atletico Mineiro, the latest injury setback for a player who has struggled to stay fit consistently for some time. An ESPN report has revealed the club believe he will be out of action for four to six weeks.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Neymar suffered an ACL injury in October 2023 while playing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, having also suffered a series of issues with Paris Saint-Germain previously. Another hamstring injury last year saw his contract with the Saudi club ripped up, though it is reported by ESPN that this new problem does not affect the same muscle.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The injury occurred on what was the Brazilian's 100th appearance for Santos, cutting short an evening of celebration. Neymar wore a shirt with 100 on his back rather than 10, but was subbed off after 34 minutes.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NEYMAR?

It is early days in the Brazilian Serie A campaign, with Santos aiming to re-establish themselves at the highest level in their first season back after a shock relegation in 2023. They have taken four points from their first four games and Neymar will hope for a swift return so that he can contribute towards the majority of the season.
