At 62, Torrent brings a unique blend of elite experience and familiarity with Mexican football. This will be his second stint in Liga MX, following a notable run with Atlético de San Luis. In his debut tournament with the Potosinos during the Apertura 2024, he led them to a club-record 30 points and an impressive playoff campaign, knocking out Tigres in the quarterfinals before falling to Rayados in the semis. However, his second season was less successful, finishing with 18 points and missing out on the Play-In, which led to his recent departure from the club.
Torrent’s managerial résumé includes stops in MLS, Brazil, Turkey, and, most famously, a long-term collaboration with Pep Guardiola. He served as Guardiola’s assistant from the Barcelona B era all the way through the historic treble-winning years at Barça, then followed him to Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He eventually stepped into a head coaching role in 2018 with New York City FC, where he set a franchise record with 68 points and captured the Supporters' Shield.
He later took the reins at Flamengo in 2020, where he earned 15 wins in 26 matches across all competitions. However, a four-match winless streak brought that chapter to a close. A brief stint with Galatasaray followed, but after eight losses in 20 matches, he parted ways with the Turkish giants.
