Mikel Arteta to replace Xavi? Barcelona make contact with Arsenal boss over potential summer move

In January, Xavi announced that he would leave the Catalan club at the end of the current campaign. Since then, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been working behind the scenes to finalise a new head coach for the club ahead of the 2024/25 season.

According to Relevo, Barca are eyeing a move for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as possible replacement for Xavi and Deco has reportedly been in touch with the Basque coach. Both the sporting director and club president Joan Laporta like the Gunners manager, although he has a contract with the Premier League giants until 2025.

Last week, journalist Florian Plettenberg reported that the Catalan giants have held 'concrete talks' with former treble-winning Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick about becoming their next head coach. Sporting coach Ruben Amorim has also been linked with a move to the Catalan giants.

Xavi's side, who are on the back of a goalless draw against Athletic Club, will aim to get back to winning ways on Friday as they take on Mallorca in a crucial La Liga encounter.
