The Red Devils have been linked with a number of names this summer as they look to sign a new centre-back following their defensive troubles last season and the departure of Raphael Varane from Old Trafford. They are reportedly very close to finalising a move for Bayern's De Ligt, although former United striker Teddy Sheringham does not believe he is the right man for the Premier League club.
GettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE
De Ligt was one of the major players to come out of Erik ten Hag's tenure with Ajax. In the famous 2018/19 season for the Eredivisie side, De Ligt captained Ajax to a domestic double and almost reached the Champions League final before losing in the semi-final to Tottenham Hotspur in heart-breaking fashion.
