'Carving us open!' - Man Utd players slammed Erik ten Hag's playing style in off-the-record conversation after FA Cup final win as dressing room turns on Dutchman

United's dismal performances last season resulted in the team crashing out of the Champions League group stage and suffering their worst finish in Premier League history - ending up eighth in the top-flight table. Despite the many calls for the Dutchman to be fired and the Red Devils chiefs holding talks with other managers, Ten Hag was awarded with a new contract as the club splashed out to strengthen the squad.

However, the ex-Ajax boss is already under pressure again this season due to their disappointing results. United lost 3-0 at home to Liverpool at the start of September, and then ended the month with draws against Crystal Palace and Twente before Tottenham beat them 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has not had the full backing of his players for some time, however, as one player told The Athletic shortly after his side won the FA Cup in the final against Manchester City last season: "You cannot have teams in the relegation zone like Sheffield United and Burnley coming to Old Trafford and carving us open."

Ten Hag will have to turn results around soon, with his side coming up against Porto in the Europa League this week before they visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
