Man Utd join Bayern Munich in chase for Norwegian wonderkid compared to Ballon d'Or winner Rodri as potential Harry Maguire replacement

According to The Sun, United scouted Helland at a recent match and may view him as the long-term successor to Harry Maguire. Bayern Munich are also scouting the Norway Under-21 international and may rival the Red Devils for his signature, though he was sent off in his side's defeat to KFUM with a Bayern representative present.

Maguire has just a year left on his contract and after focusing on attacking improvements so far this summer, United must spend some time working on a succession plan for the England international. Helland received the high praise of a comparison with Ballon d'Or holder Rodri by Brann coach Freyr Alexandersson prior to the beginning of the Norwegian domestic campaign and The Sun's report states he has "the potential to be the best centre-back Norway has ever produced".

The 6'5 defender is composed on the ball despite his commanding physical presence and has been known to spray accurate, long-range passes out to the wings. Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Salzburg are also aware of the potential of Helland, who recently captained Norway's U21s in a 4-0 victory over Wales.

Whether or not a move to Old Trafford is to materialise, the young defender is expected to continue being scouted by some of Europe's biggest clubs as he develops. Man Utd are also targeting other positions such as a new striker and a midfielder, amid links with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Benjamin Sesko and Javi Guerra.
