Man Utd considering stunning David de Gea reunion! Red Devils could re-sign legendary goalkeeper from Fiorentina amid search for new shot-stopper

According to The Sun, United are considering a reunion with De Gea after the Spaniard most recently impressed them in a pre-season friendly at Old Trafford for Fiorentina, which ended 1-1. The report states that there is a clause in De Gea's deal which means he can leave for a relatively small sum, while 'discreet background calls' are being made by the Red Devils.

De Gea departed Old Trafford in 2023 after 12 years and 545 appearances at the club. After spending a year as a free agent, he signed for Fiorentina and returned to form in 42 appearances last season. If he were to return to United now it would raise more than a few eyebrows.

De Gea posted on social media following his Old Trafford return: "A magical moment for me and my family to come back to Old Trafford — my home. From the bottom of my heart — I want to say thank you for the reception — for all the love you showed me. To the supporters that never stopped being with me throughout my time at this club. Our paths may cross again."

De Gea will be prepared and ready to begin his second season in Serie A, though it can be imagined that the former Old Trafford hero would relish the chance to return to United. As for the Red Devils, Andre Onana is set to be fit to start against Arsenal in Sunday's season opener but it remains to be seen who their long-term goalkeeper will be.
