    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Alvarez has been discontent at Manchester City as the Argentine striker has played second fiddle for Guardiola behind superstar Erling Haaland. As such, the 24-year-old has been approached by Atletico Madrid over a summer move and the Premier League champions have reportedly agreed on a £82 million ($104.1m) bid from the Rojiblancos.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    As per The Telegraph, Manchester City have already identified Wolves forward Pedro Neto as their chosen replacement for Alvarez. As per several previous reports, Neto has been linked to several top Premier League clubs over a move this summer but has been likely to remain at Molineux.

    Alvarez's move to Atletico Madrid is not yet confirmed as journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that the negotiations between the two sides are progressing slowly. There have been disagreements over base salary and contract length and the move may therefore be delayed for some more time.
