Manchester City have officially confirmed the departure of Brazilian winger Kayky to Bahia in a permanent deal. After having signed with the Citizens for £9 million ($12m)in 2021, the youngster failed to cement a first-team role and spent most of his time on loan. As City begin reshaping their squad, Kayky’s exit marks the start of more expected changes at the Etihad this summer.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Kayky joined Manchester City from Fluminense with high expectations but made just one Premier League appearance. He featured primarily for the Elite Development Squad before going on loans to Pacos de Ferreira, Sparta Rotterdam, and Bahia. A serious Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in 2023 further derailed his chances of breaking into Guardiola’s plans.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Manchester City have now confirmed Kayky's permanent transfer to Bahia, where he spent the second half of last season. The move brings closure to a disappointing spell in Manchester for the 22-year-old. The club is now focused on trimming the squad and offloading fringe players as they plan to improve the squad after their immense failure in the 2024-25 season.

    Kayky was highly rated in Brazil and made an early impression in City’s U23s, helping them win the Premier League 2 title. However, his senior breakthrough never materialised, and injuries stunted his momentum. Brazilian side Bahia, part of the City Football Group, have thus opted to bring him back permanently.
