Why Liverpool WON'T sign Bradley Barcola amid reports of imminent bid for PSG sensation

Earlier on Wednesday, L'Equipe reported that Liverpool are back in the race to sign 22-year-old wide man Barcola this summer, as they continue to face difficulties in their pursuit of Alexander Isak. They have already seen their first bid for the Newcastle star rejected and were said to have now shifted their focus to Barcola and Real Madrid's Rodrygo.

The Athletic, however, claims that the Reds are not considering a move for Barcola at the moment, as his arrival at Anfield would affect the progress of youth product Rio Ngumoha. The 16-year-old wonderkid has been impressive in the club's pre-season friendlies and the champions' primary focus is to oversee the growth of the teenager as a player under Arne Slot's tutelage. 

Liverpool have already spent almost £300 million ($400m) this summer to strengthen their squad and a transfer for Barcola would probably cost them another €100m (£133.5m).

Slot's men are now preparing for their first competitive match of the 2024-25 campaign as they take on Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday.
