  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to a report from BILD (h/t Bundesliga News), Bayern Munich have decided against offering a new contract to Goretzka, despite the midfielder's willingness to fight for his place in the team and a strong second-half of the season to back it up.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Per the report, Bayern informed Goretzka that they will allow the player to depart this summer if a suitable offer arrives. The German midfielder is tied with the Bavarians until 2026, and is keen on seeing out his contract at the Allianz Arena instead of seeking greener pastures this summer. Goretzka worked hard to fight for his place under Vincent Kompany, which he managed to achieve to some extent, especially in the latter half of the ongoing campaign. It turns out, however, that his recent strong showings haven't been convincing enough for the Bayern higher-ups to change their stance.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Notwithstanding the potential departure of Goretzka, Die Roten are set to witness the departure of a number of players this season. Thomas Muller, who is the club's all-time record appearance maker, has already announced that he will leave this summer. Centre-back Eric Dier, too, will be leaving on a free transfer, joining Ligue 1 giants Monaco.
