Leeds line up move for Newcastle star Nick Pope as Premier League promotion hopefuls FINALLY target new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier

Meslier has become an unpopular figure at Elland Road this season after a string of mistakes in goal have cost Leeds crucial points in their hunt to return to the Premier League. As a result, the Yorkshire side are looking to upgrade their goalkeeper in the summer, with reports suggesting Pope is a top target.

Pope has been a key figure for Newcastle under Eddie Howe and recently got his first taste of silverware, winning the Carabao Cup with the Magpies. However, the 32-year-old may be allowed to leave at the end of the season with just one year left on his contract at St James' Park. Should Leeds manage to secure their spot in the top flight next term, it would be a sensible move for the England international to continue getting regular minutes and playing in the Premier League.

Alongside Pope, Leeds are believed to be big admirers of James Trafford. The Burnley goalie was linked with a move to Tottenham last summer and may find himself looking for a new club if Scott Parker's men fail to gain promotion.

Leeds sit top of the Championship table with just three games to go. They remain level on points with Burnley but have a five-point buffer to third-placed Sheffield United.
