  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After one of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent memory, Mbappe finally left Paris Saint-Germain for Real Madrid earlier this summer. Now, Los Blancos fan Alonso has spoken about the 25-year-old's transfer, his hopes for the upcoming season - including retaining their Champions League crown - and more.

    WHAT FERNANDO ALONSO SAID

On Mbappe's signing, the Aston Martin driver told DAZN: "Very happy after a long wait of six or seven years in which the signing was almost done. He has finally arrived and he will be an incredible reinforcement for Madrid, I hope he is successful."

When asked about the club's dominance, he added: "The Champions League is enough for me."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbappe was prolific for PSG down the years, winning more than a dozen trophies and scoring 256 goals in 308 games. Most of those goals came as a left-sided forward but he may play as a number nine at Madrid - which will certainly test his credentials. The France international will be under pressure to hit the ground running in Carlo Ancelotti's team but he is certainly capable of doing that as one of the world's best players.
