WHAT HAPPENED?
Everton made the decision to sack former Burnley boss Dyche on Thursday afternoon, with an FA Cup tie against Peterborough United mere hours away. According to The Athletic, Fenerbahce manager Mourinho is 'not in contention' to take over at the Toffees, who are 16th in the Premier League table.

This decision comes less than a month after The Friedkin Group completed their takeover from Everton owner Farhad Moshiri - who was not a popular figure at on Merseyside. According to The Telegraph, former Toffees manager David Moyes is expected to be strongly considered for the vacant role but ex-Manchester United boss Mourinho has been "ruled out" as he was sacked previously by the Friedkin Group during his time with Roma

In October, Mourinho said he was "ready" to return to the Premier League after a stint at Fenerbahce and wants to manage a club "at the bottom" of the table.
He told reporters: "The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go."
