Jonathan Tah banned! Germany dealt huge Euro 2024 blow as Bayer Leverkusen defender suspended for last-16 after clumsy challenge in Switzerland clash

In the 1-1 draw with Switzerland at Euro 2024, Tah dealt his side a big blow ahead of the knockout stages by getting himself suspended. The centre-back was cautioned for a clumsy high foot on Breel Embolo, who required some treatment after the challenge.

Luckily for Germany, they should be able to cope without the 28-year-old for one match. They are safely through to the knockout stages and have a great range of depth to their squad. Julian Nagelsmann is not short of options with the likes of Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton on the bench.

Tah earned his 28th cap for Germany against Switzerland and made it three consecutive starts at Euro 2020. He has featured in every game for the national side since December 2023 but will have to watch the next one from the stands.

While Tah enjoys his unplanned break, Germany will be looking ahead to the first knockout game at their home tournament. No matter who they face, the players and managers will be confident they can overcome the challenge and emulate France's home success of 1984.
