John Terry stays! Chelsea legend avoids the axe to remain in academy role as new contract nears

According to The Telegraph, Neil Bath, who brought Terry back to Chelsea to work in the academy last year, left the club, as did Jim Fraser - who worked closely with the ex-England international. Earlier this year, the former centre-back was negotiating an extension to his rolling contract and now the report states that will be finalised soon.

The report adds Terry has been influential in helping bring academy talents to the club, speaking with players and their parents and offering advice. While they are set to keep on the 43-year-old, academy products Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, and Armando Broja could all leave the club this summer - so Terry may have a tougher task in showing there is a pathway to the first-team for youngsters in the future.

Terry initially spent time in West Ham's academy before moving to Chelsea's as a 14-year-old. He then went onto play 717 times for the Blues, winning Premier League and Champions League titles along with a whole host of other trophies along the way.

While Chelsea's first-team begin the new Premier League season at home to defending champions Manchester City on August 18, the club's under-21s take on Tottenham two days earlier. Terry may be present for both those matches.
