  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to a report by Marca, Chelsea winger Joao Felix was spotted at the Hard Rock Stadium during the FIFA Club World Cup fixture between Benfica and Boca Juniors yesterday. Although he travelled to America, he was not training with Chelsea and was on vacation. However, what has ignited new speculations is his absence in the stands during Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC. Benfica manager Bruno Lage, meanwhile, has issued a warning to the Portuguese attacker if he considers a return.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Felix, although a Chelsea player, spent the second half of the previous season on loan at AC Milan. It is being rumoured that he is eyeing a return to his former employers and coach Lage has also expressed his desire to bring back the winger; however, financial constraints might be a roadblock to the fruition of such a move.

  • WHAT LAGE SAID

Lage said: “There have to be two desires: the desire and the financial aspect. There is desire, and we believe there is desire on both sides. We must also look at the financial aspect: what business and how much we can invest in Joao, and on Joao's part, he has to understand that Benfica cannot afford the salary. This must be clear.”
