Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard says he 'didn't know the rules' after riding scooter in Seoul without a license

<p>Lingard is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/man-utd-jesse-lingard-police-investigation-south-korea-arousing-suspicion-deleted-social-media-post/blte8c364cddfaf6c48" target="_blank">under police investigation</a> after sharing a video of himself riding an electric scooter in Seoul without a valid license or a protective helmet on Instagram - which has since been deleted. Lingard <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-cm/lists/jesse-lingard-not-football-player-brutal-comments-fc-seoul-boss-man-utd-loanee-exile-nightmare-korea/bltc287c5b67a7a96dc" target="_blank">hasn't had the easiest of times since moving to Asia</a> in February, and this is an embarrassing chapter for the former England international.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The 31-year-old has issued an apology for breaking Korean rules that he didn't know were in place. According to the <a href="https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/sports/2024/09/600_382612.html" target="_blank">Korea Times</a>, driver's licenses for e-scooter rides were mandated in the country earlier this year, with a fine of 100,000 won (£57/$76) for violators. Furthermore, those found guilty of riding without a helmet can be fined 20,000 won (£11/$15).</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>"I didn't know the rules of wearing a helmet or having a license as well. In England, and probably in Europe as well, you can just pick up an e-scooter off the street and start riding it," Lingard said on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stories/jesselingard/?hl=en-gb" target="_blank">Instagram</a>. "Anyone visiting South Korea, obviously, you have to check the rules. It can be dangerous. Safety first for everyone. Obviously, I won't do that again."</p>

WHAT LINGARD SAID

<p>Last year, Lingard was <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/former-man-utd-england-star-jesse-lingard-issues-apology-after-being-fined-for-drink-driving/bltdf4941339c74e920" target="_blank">fined £57,000 ($75,000) and banned from driving for 18 months</a> after admitting to drink-driving in Manchester. The Manchester United academy graduate <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/just-gonna-fck-about-gym-jesse-lingard-brutal-message-man-utd-legend-paul-scholes-seventh-month-free-agent/bltb0c3c8875c0fd0cc" target="_blank">faced several months as a free agent</a> before landing a contract with South Korean outfit FC Seoul in February.</p>
