  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Liverpool defender explained how he was not seen in any of the photos of the Champions League trophy lift as he was suffering with cramp. Carragher told of how tightness in his calf muscle meant he was stood at the back - and out of sight - of the photos celebrating their famous night in Istanbul. Ian Wright could not believe what he was being told.

  • WHAT CARRAGHER SAID

Speaking on Stick to Football, Carragher said: "One of my regrets, when Stevie [Gerrard] lifted the trophy is I'm not in any picture."

Ian Wright responded in disbelief: "That’s f*cking criminal bro."

Carragher then explained further: "I’m at the back, stretching my calf because I’m getting cramp at the end of the game. So when you get the shot from above and you can see players who have only played two games - like the right-back, a Spanish lad, Josemi, he’s right in it and in every picture - I’m stretching my calf in the back and I just think ‘oh my God’ because whenever I sign a picture [of Istanbul], I’m signing over Josemi’s head!"

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Liverpool's famous night in Istanbul still ranks as one of the greatest Champions League finals of all time. The Reds were 3-0 down to a world-class AC Milan side and turned the game around to draw 3-3 and take the game to penalties before triumphing on spot-kicks.
