Inter Miami reportedly pursuing Cruz Azul center back Gonzalo Piovi to help solve defensive issues

Cruz Azul could be set for a second departure in the middle of the Apertura 2025, with reports linking Gonzalo Piovi to Inter Miami ahead of the MLS transfer deadline on Aug. 21.

According to Cesar Luis Merlo, the transfer is in advanced stages, with another report indicating that the Mexican side is asking between $6 million and $7 million for the Argentine defender.

Javier Mascherano’s Inter Miami side are in urgent need of defensive reinforcements and has its sights set on one of Cruz Azul’s undisputed starters, who played a key role in the club’s Champions Cup triumph last summer. Since arriving in Mexico in 2023, Piovi has made 74 appearances, cementing himself as a key figure for La Máquina.

According to specialist site Transfermarkt, Gonzalo Piovi’s value is just more than $3 million.
