    On Monday morning, Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold confirmed what has been speculated since the start of the season, that he will be leaving his boyhood club this summer after his contract expires. The Reds' vice-captain announced that he was keen on "experiencing a new challenge" as he wants to "push himself", having been with the Merseyside club for over 20 years.

    The Athletichas now revealed exactly how and when Alexander-Arnold communicated to Liverpool boss Slot about his decision not to continue with the Merseyside club. The report has suggested that the right-back told Slot of his desire to pursue a new challenge during the March international break, and he did so face-to-face in the coach's office, as he explained that he needed to pursue a new challenge to step out of his comfort zone.

    Alexander-Arnold is close to completing a move to Madrid as a free agent, a transfer that would see him unite with his friend and England team-mate, Jude Bellingham. However, the contract has not yet been signed as the Three Lions star wants to respect his contract with his boyhood club before confirming the move to Spain.
