FIFA 20 ratings: Neymar, Mbappe & the best Ligue 1 players

Paris Saint-Germain unsurprisingly dominate the French league in FIFA as in real life, but who else is worthy of a place in your Ultimate Team squad?

    #24 Houssem Aouar - Lyon - CAM - 81

The 21-year-old broke into Lyon's team two seasons ago and has been establishing himself as one of France's next big things ever since. With 4* skill moves and impressive dribbling stats, he could be one of this year's hidden playmaking gems.

    #23 Thiago Mendes - Lyon - CDM - 81

A real jack of all trades, the Brazilian holding midfielder has stats above 80 in every category, and card stats all in the 70s. He gets a big upgrade on his 75 card from FIFA 19, which saw him pick up a Team of the Season card and a move to Lyon from Lille.

    #22 Jose Fonte - Lille - CB - 81

The former Southampton defender spent a year in China but came back to France with a bang last year, earning a Team of the Season card and an upgrade on last season's 78 card. He isn't the quickest but at 6'2", with high/medium workrates and a slew of 80+ defensive stats, the Portugal international is a handy operator.

    #21 Laurent Koscielny - Bordeaux - CB - 81

He might not be the most popular man in north London right now, but the former Arsenal captain has always been a useful addition in FUT. Back in France with Bordeaux, he's lost some of his pace but still posts more than adequate defensive stats - but he isn't the 85 OVR defender of three FIFAs ago.

    #20 Dimitri Payet - Marseille - CAM - 81

At 32 years old, the free-kick wizard is starting to drop down the rankings, but he's still more than a useful player with a good selection of dribbling and passing stats, plus 4* skill moves and weak foot. Just 75-rated free-kicks, though? What's that about?

    #19 Cesc Fabregas - Monaco - CM - 81

One for the FIFA purists, Fabregas may have the pace and physical stats of an elderly man - he's still only 32 - but with the passing stats of a latter-day Andrea Pirlo, he's still got a place in this game. Find him time and space on the ball and he'll pick out team-mates left, right and centre.

    #18 Gelson Martins - Monaco - RM - 82

At 82 OVR, with 95 pace and 5* skill moves, Martins is a player you're probably going to be seeing a lot of this season. Still, if you can't beat them, join them and with 95 agility, 92 balance and 87 dribbling to go with his searing speed, even the most hapless dribbler should be able to beat a man or two with him.

    #17 Presnel Kimpembe - PSG - CB - 82

A slight downgrade on last season's 83-rated card, the 24-year-old defender's progression has stalled slightly at PSG and his biggest moment of last season was the handball which allowed Marcus Rashford to dump his side out of the Champions League. Still, with a bit of pace and impressive defensive and physical stats, he's a solid alternative to some of his pricier PSG team-mates.

    #16 Ander Herrera - PSG - CM - 82

Oh, Ander, where art thou? Manchester United fans might be missing his bite in midfield, but the Spanish midfielder provides some useful hybrid links and an excellently well-rounded card. With 86 stamina to complement his high/high workrates, he could be the all-action workhorse your team has been looking for.

    #15 Thomas Meunier - PSG - RB - 82

Tall, strong and wonderfully well-rounded, Meunier is as solid an operator at right-back as you're likely to find. He maintains his 82 rating from FIFA 19, with a minor pace increase and a one-point shooting downgrade the only changes from last year's card.

    #14 Florian Thauvin - Marseille - RW - 83

Newcastle fans, look away now. The former Tyneside flop has had a slight downgrade despite last season's Team of the Season card, but he's still a silky operator on the wing. With a turn of pace, good shooting and passing stats and dribbling ability to make an angel cry, Thauvin is certainly worth a punt on the right.

    #13 Julian Draxler - PSG - CAM - 83

The Germany international is no secret to FUT fans, with his technical ability proving a weapon in midfield for years. With 4* skill moves and a 5* weak foot to go with his excellent dribbling, passing and shooting stats, Draxler adds creativity and a goal threat from midfield.
  13. #12 Pablo Sarabia - PSG - CAM - 83

A new addition to Ligue 1, PSG's new midfield orchestrator boasts 4* skill moves and weak foot and a nicely rounded card. Those Spanish links will come in handy as well; Sarabia, Herrera and Fabregas in a three, anybody?
  14. Getty

    #11 Idrissa Gueye - PSG - CDM - 83

Everton's loss has been Ligue 1's gain. One of the most popular defensive midfielders in the game, Gueye has bounced back up to an 83 rating after a slight drop in FIFA 19 and his blend of defensive, dribbling and physical stats make him into a consistently excellent option once again. He's started the season well for PSG, too, so expect an inform or two.

    #10 Wissam Ben Yedder - Monaco - ST - 83

The first striker on the list, Ben Yedder's 30 goals in all competitions for Sevilla last season was only good enough for a one-point upgrade to accompany his move to Monaco. With brilliant shooting and dribbling stats plus a 5* weak foot and 4* skills, expect him to be a constant threat this year.

    #9 Memphis Depay - Lyon - CF - 84

If you designed a footballer purely for the purpose of FUT, they'd probably look a bit like Memphis. Fast, strong, skilful and with a cannon of a shot, the Dutchman keeps hold of his mid-season upgrade from last year. Also - and keep this to yourselves - but he's higher rated than any attacker at Manchester United.

    #8 Mauro Icardi - PSG - ST - 85

A new striking option for a league rarely lacking in them, Icardi's move to PSG is sure to lead to some interesting headlines in real life. He isn't especially fast or strong but his shooting and heading stats are superb. Give him the ball, and he'll put it in the goal. Simple!

    #7 Marco Verratti - PSG - CM - 86

With five in-game stats above 90 and three more at 89, the reliable Italian remains one of the silkiest midfielders in the game with just the right amount of bite to go with the elegance. Since making the jump up from a silver card back in FIFA 14, he's finished with a Team of the Season in every game but one.
  19. Getty

    #6 Marquinhos - PSG - CB - 86

PSG's Brazilian partnership at the back has been a FUT mainstay for a few years now, and with its junior member getting a slight upgrade, it's stronger than ever. You know what to expect with Marquinhos, and once again he's a solid all-round defender with good workrates and a high enough jumping stat to make up for only being six foot tall. He's still only 25!
  20. Getty

    #5 Angel Di Maria - PSG - RW - 86

A welcome step up from his 84 card last year, Di Maria's good form at PSG has left him with a tasty-looking card in FIFA 20. His physical stats might be a worry but with 5* skills and excellent numbers across the board in passing, shooting and dribbling - plus a bit of pace - he'll be a dangerous player this year.

  21. Getty Images

    #4 Thiago Silva - PSG - CB - 87

The defensive king of France keeps his place on top of the pile once again, still going strong at 35. His age sees him take a slight downgrade from last year and he doesn't have the pace of the Thiago Silvas of old, but his defensive stats are still among the best in the game. He's getting on, though, so enjoy him while you can.
  22. Getty Images

    #3 Edinson Cavani - PSG - ST - 88

Another PSG player still looking good despite a slight downgrade, the least flashy of their fabled attacking trio still boasts a healthy 88 rating. He's not perfect, and a high defensive workrate might be a positional pain, but his shooting and heading ability are not to be trifled with. A volleys stat of 90 could also make for some spectacular finishes.
  23. Getty

    #2 Kylian Mbappe - PSG - ST - 89

It's not often a 20-year-old might be unhappy with a rating of 89, but it's not often football sees a talent like Mbappe. His frankly ridiculous combination of pace, dribbling, shooting and 5* skill moves means he'll still be an absolute handful, but we're still waiting to see him hit the big nine-zero. He's not a winger anymore, though!
  24. Getty Images

    #1 Neymar - PSG - LW - 92

Well, he's still here! Interestingly - or not, you decide - the only left-sided player on this list, it's hardly a surprise to see the Brazilian top the charts for Ligue 1 once again after his dream return to Barcelona was snatched away. He's still basically brilliant at everything you'll want him to do, with 5* skill moves and weak foot. You want a weakness? I don't know, 62 heading? Useless. Don't bother.
