'We don't want fans bored!' - Ruben Amorim outlines 'small steps' for Man Utd to follow in order to win Premier League within next three years

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim spoke of his aims both this season and in the long term with United. The Portuguese stated that while he knows the Red Devils are not ready to challenge for the Premier League title as of yet, that will be their target in years to come and they have identified smaller steps which they must take in the meantime.

United finished in a lowly 15th last season after a miserable end to their league campaign and winning the title will be far from on their radar this term. But Amorim is demonstrating that the club remains ambitious and knows that fans demand the Red Devils soon return to their former glory, 12 years after their last Premier League crown. The challenge in the short term is likely to be a challenge for Europe, with optimism given by United's opening-day performance in defeat to Arsenal.

Amorim said: "Success is to win titles and we don't know if we are going to achieve that, we are not in the moment where we can say that we are clearly fighting for the league. We just need to make small steps.

"Small steps means to prepare every game like it is a final. For us, it is a final, we have that pressure in this club. In the end, I don't know what is going to be success. It depends the way you are seeing the team.

"We just want to be really competitive, trying to dominate games, trying to score goals, not to get fans bored to see our games! So we have small things - if we put check, check, check, in the end it is going to be better. That is the most important thing.

"I think everyone knows that we have a goal, not for this season, but in three years to win the Premier League. We are going to get these steps done to reach that goal but, of course, in this club, every week the narrative is going to be different. So we need to be prepared for that, block the noise, do the job and try to win games."

United travel to Fulham on Sunday afternoon and will hope to get their first Premier League points of the season on the board, ahead of a big year in Amorim's first full campaign in charge of the club. Whether or not the Portuguese gets to stick around to fulfil his title-winning dream could depend on what happens in the coming months as the Red Devils head coach hopes that new signings such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo inspire a rise up the table.
