Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed the severity of defender Wesley Fofana's hamstring injury during the Blues' 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Chelsea have been in top form these last couple of months as Maresca's football starts to take action on the Blues squad. That form was on display at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea won 3-0 against Aston Villa with goals from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer.

However, in the 60th minute, a concerning moment awaited Chelsea fans as in-form defender Fofana went down on the floor and had to be replaced by Benoit Badiashile. Maresca has now confirmed the severity of Fofana's hamstring injury and confirmed that he may not return to action this year.
WHAT MARESCA SAID
Speaking to the media, Maresca said: "It's bad news [Fofana's injury]. He has a muscular problem. It looks like it's his hamstring. These (injuries) usually require at least three, four or five weeks out... It's a big loss."
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR FOFANA?
The Chelsea defender's year may be over, as per Maresca's apparent timeline. However, Fofana will now undergo tests which will give a more accurate timeline to his return.
