'I would like to dream about it' - Jamie Carragher reveals ideal Liverpool transfer as Reds legend collects special award

  • Carragher picks up special award

Carragher was honoured at Estadio de San Mames before Athletic Club's 1-1 draw with Girona, with the Spanish team recognising his loyalty to Liverpool over a 17-year career.

On the tribute, he said: "It is an honour to be here this afternoon. It means a lot to me. The biggest achievement of my career was to have played 17 years at the club of my life."

Carragher wants Williams in a Liverpool shirt

Carragher was then asked by DAZN which Athletic Club player he would take to Liverpool. Unsurprisingly, it was star Nico Williams.

He replied: "Yes. I would take the one everyone wants to take. Nico [Williams] is a fantastic player. He scored the first goal against England in the Euro final. Spain deserved to win. I know he is your player and he has renewed for 10 years, but I would like to see him in a Liverpool shirt. I know it is not going to happen, but I would like to dream about it."

  • Williams one of game's most coveted players

Arsenal and Barcelona have come close to signing Williams in the past year or so, and Liverpool have also been linked with the Spain international. Just when it looked like he might move to Barca this summer, he signed a new 10-year deal with Athletic Club. Therefore, it seems the 23-year-old will stay put at the Basque outfit for another season at least.

Busy time for Liverpool and Athletic Club

Both Liverpool and Athletic Club play three more times before the October international break, with the former taking on Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea in the space of a week. And the latter lock horns with Villarreal, Borussia Dortmund, and Mallorca over the same time period between this Saturday and October 4.
